چکیده

A di-positively charged metal-based receptor is shown to form 1:1 or 2:1 association complexes with rigid, linear two-site guests depending on the site separation, suggesting that electrostatic repulsion controls the association nuclearity.

1. Supramolecular chemistry for Nanomedicine

Mimicking Nature, supramolecular chemistry represents the chemistry beyond the molecule, in view that intermolecular interactions constitute the driving force for the preparation of molecular and supramolecular assemblies, using the chemical information contained in molecular building blocks. Upon molecular recognition between discrete units, chemical processes such as self-assembly and self-or...

Self-organization of Short Peptide Fragments: From Amyloid Fibrils to Nanoscale Supramolecular Assemblies

Numerous supramolecular protein assemblies had been demonstrated to have either physiological or pathological activities. The most significant case of diseaseassociated self-organized structures is that of amyloid fibrils. The formation of these fibrils is the hallmark of major human disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease and type II diabetes. In this review we illustrate the molecular proper...

Protein−Nanoparticle Hydrogels That Self-assemble in Response to Peptide-Based Molecular Recognition

Recently, supramolecular hydrogels assembled through nonspecific interactions between polymers and nanoparticles (termed PNP systems) were reported to have rapid shear-thinning and self-healing properties amenable for cell-delivery applications in regenerative medicine. Here, we introduce protein engineering concepts into the design of a new family of PNP hydrogels to enable direct control over...

Supramolecular Layer-by-Layer Assembly of 3D Multicomponent Nanostructures via Multivalent Molecular Recognition

The supramolecular layer-by-layer assembly of 3D multicomponent nanostructures of nanoparticles is demonstrated. Nanoimprint lithography (NIL) was used as the patterning tool for making patterned beta-cyclodextrin (CD) self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) and for the confinement of nanoparticles on the substrate. A densely packed and multilayered nanoparticle structure was created by alternating as...

Fidelity in the Supramolecular Assembly of Triply and Quadruply Hydrogen-Bonded Complexes

Advancements in self-assembly and nanotechnology will require multiple assembly “codes” to be executed simultaneously. At the molecular level this will require fidelity or orthogonality in molecular recognition events. To explore the limits of orthogonal assembly, association constants (K assoc ) and dimerization constants (K dimer ) were measured with a known series of matched and mismatched r...
